Wordle alternatives

Updated November 4, 2026

Done with today's Wordle by 8 a.m.? Same. These are the daily word games worth adding to the routine, all free in your browser, each with its own twist on what a word puzzle can be.

We make Sprout, the first one on the list. Everything else is made by other people.

Sprout: the seed word AM growing into MARCH, one leaf-shaped letter tile at a time
1 · Our pick, and our game

Sprout

Start with a two-letter seed and grow it into the day's word. Each turn you can swap two letters, add one new letter anywhere, or both, and every step has to be a real word. Do it in the fewest turns possible and you grow a sunflower; a turn or two more grows a tulip or a daisy. Somewhere on the day's routes a golden seed word is hidden, and every finish gets planted in your monthly garden.

Questions

What is the best Wordle alternative?

It depends what you like about Wordle. For more guessing, try Quordle or Octordle. For rearranging letters, Waffle. For meaning instead of spelling, Contexto or Semantle. For building words, Sprout or Wordiply.

Are there free games like Wordle?

Yes. Every game on this page is free in a browser, needs no account, and has a new puzzle every day that everyone shares, so you can compare results.

Is there a Wordle where you build words instead of guessing?

Yes. In Sprout you grow a two-letter seed into the day's word, and in Wordiply you build the longest word you can around a starter word.

Can I play more than one word puzzle a day?

Yes, and most people do. A word game, a trivia game like Spankle and a price game like Top Floor make a five-minute morning routine.
